Derby High School Ethiopia 2006 trip

homepage

In July 2006 a group of three staff and ten students from Derby High School visited the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, where we stayed for three weeks. While we were there we visited a number of charities and taught at the St Matthews Community Library which is on a small compound, this was the main reason for our trip.

We taught for a total of ten days from 9.00 in the morning to 1.00 in the afternoon. We taught 120 of the poorest children in the area.

Some days, after we had finished teaching, we visited different charities. These charities included The Gemini Trust, Brothers of Charity and others.

Ethiopia is so full of poverty that it is difficult to get used to, when compared to the lives we live. The work that we as a school do over there may not make a difference to the whole city but it makes a difference to the people that we work with.
